Exciting Honor for HPHS!

I am so excited to inform you that Whitney, Moussa and I were fortunate to attend the Michigan College Access Network's College Access Impact Awards Dinner tonight in Lansing and accept an award on behalf of HPHS.
The MCAN Cardinal Award was created to honor an individual or organization for driving the state of Michigan toward the Big Goal of 60% college attainment by year 2025 through the design and promotion of campaigns to urge students, parents, school staff, and community members to take direct action by creating a sense of urgency around the postsecondary planning process.
This award is a testament to the work which has been done by the entire staff over the past several years to ensure all Hazel Park students have the opportunity to pursue, and, ultimately, to achieve, their dreams.
THANK YOU for all you do for our Hazel Park students, and congratulations on the award!

 Junior High Symphonic Winds
Division I (Superior Rating)

The Junior High Symphonic Winds played wonderfully at band festival, earning a Division I (Superior Rating) in both their stage performance and in sight-reading!  Actually, they earned straight Division I’s  - meaning they received the Superior Rating from each of the four judges.  That’s the highest score a band can receive.  They were one of only a handful of Junior High bands to earn this distinction at Festival. Needless to say, the students are beside themselves with excitement!
The band was evaluated in terms of tone quality, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, technique, and interpretation.  After our prepared stage performance,  our band students moved to the sight-reading room where they had five minutes to study a piece of music they have never seen and perform it for adjudication.   The judges averaged their scores and gave us our rating.
Not only was their music making spectacular, but the band students represented our school well with their polite, friendly behavior.  They were terrific ambassadors for Hazel Park schools!
