Annual Education Report

  • April 22, 2016

    Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER), which provides key information on the 2014-15 educational progress for the Hazel Park SER Learning Academy. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Michelle Laporte for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically here, or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.

SER Learning Academy faces the challenge of educating students, many of whom were previously unsuccessful in school and who come from a wide variety of educational backgrounds, in a very small setting. To make this possible, we have chosen to provide all core classes in an online format, to allow for a high degree of personalization in scheduling. In addition, we’ve offered vocational classes in subjects such as Cosmetology, Building Trades, and Computer Programming. SER Academy also works with the SER Metro organization to offer a wide variety of enrichment and support services for students and their families.

State law requires that we also report additional information:

Hazel Park SER Academy admits all eligible high school completion students who apply.

Our school improvement plan is constantly adapting and evolving to reflect current realities and data, and maximize positive changes. Implementation is ongoing, and additional goals and strategies are currently in process. We welcome participation by any interested students, families, and community members who would like to help our School Improvement Team with the goal of continuously improving SER Academy.

SER Academy is for students ages 16-19 who have encountered obstacles to their academic success in their previous educational endeavors. Smaller class sizes, small school atmosphere, self-paced online learning and more opportunities for individual attention and intensive support provide students with a greater likelihood of success. The program offers high school completion classes through our online Gradpoint curriculum, as well as vocational classes.

All Hazel Park district schools follow the state curriculum. Most of the core curriculum at SER Academy is provided via Pearson’s Gradpoint program, and this curriculum, along with state standards correlations, is available through Gradpoint.

SER Academy parents have consistently chosen not to attend parent-teacher nights. We offer individual meetings at parents’ request.

    Dual Enrollment / College Credits:

We had no students that were dual enrolled.

We do not offer college equivalent courses.

No students were enrolled in college equivalent courses.

None of our students received scores toward college credits.

SER Academy takes great pride in our students’ determination to overcome the obstacles that stand between them and success in completing their education. We are committed to helping their dreams of earning a high school diploma become reality.
