Annual Education Report

    Dear Parents and Community Members:

     

    We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER), which provides key information on the 2014-15 educational progress for Hazel Park Alternative High School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Steve Nemeckay, principal, for assistance.

     

    The AER is available for you to review electronically here, or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.

     

    The key challenges for Hazel Park Alternative High School are attendance and closing the achievement gaps between our students and their peers throughout the state.  Improvement in all academic areas is our goal and to reach 100% proficiency in all areas by 2022.  

     

    Some of the key initiatives being undertaken to improve student achievement are as follows:

     

    •  Consistent use of technology in the classroom by the teachers

     

    •  Using data to guide instruction

     

    •  Closely monitor student progress in their courses

     

    •  Differentiate instruction in the classroom

     

    •  Improve our teacher evaluation process

     

    •  Chromebooks to assist all students in the learning process

     

    State law requires that we also report the following additional information:

     

    Process for Assigning Pupils to Hazel Park Alternative High School is open for enrollment to students 15-20 years old who reside in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties. Hazel Park Schools screens students to determine if Hazel Park Alternative High School will meet the needs of the individual student.

     

    The Status of the 3 – 5 Year School Improvement Plan at Hazel Park Alternative High School is in its second year of implementation.  The current 3-5 year plan is focused on math, writing, and reading, with strategies in place to positively impact all academic areas.  The current plan is a working document and is updated and adjusted each year in order to optimize meeting the needs of the students.

     

    Hazel Park Alternative High School supports the district plan in developing a district curriculum aligned to the Common Core.  

     

    Hazel Park Alternative High School hosts two parent/teacher conferences during the school year.  In the last two years we averaged 21% parent attendance for our conferences. 

     

    At this time we do not have any students that participate in dual enrollment or college equivalent courses.

     

    Hazel Park Alternative High School and all of its members continue to work together to provide a nurturing school environment that enables students to succeed academically.  Our staff continues to enhance their instruction to better serve all of our students.  The after-school program continues to grow and has helped with academic growth.  We are committed to helping students earn their high school diploma.
