• Dear Parents,

Thank you for continuing to be a part of your child’s education in Hazel Park.  I am writing to let you know that attached you are receiving the results of your child’s performance on the 2017-2018 M-STEP, Michigan’s statewide exam.

Our students’ scores overall show stability compared to last year’s M-STEP scores, as well as increases in the following areas:

    • Math Scores - grade 8 and 11
    • English Language Arts (ELA) - grades 4, 5, 8, and 11

We know that the new K-5 ELA curriculum, implemented during the 2016-2017 school year, is having a positive impact on our students’ performance in reading and writing. We are confident that our students will make similar gains in other content areas, as we implement newly written K- 12 curriculum in all core subject areas.

To help you better understand the M STEP and your child’s scores, we have placed a number of resources on the Hazel Park Website under the Assessment section. The following link will take you directly to these resources: https://goo.gl/6shfvv .

The Hazel Park School District is committed to improvement and growth. The results of these assessments will be used, as they always have been, to help improve our schools and your child’s education.

We are extremely excited in Hazel Park about the turn around we are making in our schools. We are truly excited to begin the new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. We look forward to our shared partnering in making a difference in your child’s education.

As always please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

    Amy Kruppe, Ed.D.
